Dental & Skin Care
- Wait at least one year for routine dental work to reduce infection risk.
- Use fluoride treatments to prevent tooth decay.
- Protect your skin with SPF 30+ sunscreen and avoid excessive sun exposure.
Emotional Health & Survivor Guilt
- You may experience anxiety, depression, or even survivor’s guilt after ASCT.
- Therapy or support groups can help navigate these feelings.
- Engaging in hobbies, volunteer work, or spiritual activities may provide purpose.
Vaccinations & Preventive Care
- Post-transplant immunizations begin around one year after ASCT.
- Common vaccines include tetanus, influenza, pneumonia, and hepatitis.
- Centers vary on vaccination timing and which vaccinations are given. Make sure to discuss this with your doctor!
Secondary Cancers & Long-Term Screening
- Survivors have an increased risk of secondary cancers (skin, thyroid, breast, etc.).
- Routine screenings (mammograms, prostate exams, colonoscopies) are essential.
ASCT recovery is a long but rewarding journey. Every small milestone is a victory worth celebrating. With the right self-care, medical guidance, and mindset, you can reclaim your life and move forward with strength and resilience.
