ASCT Outpatient Process

Last updated on: 3/25/2025

Outpatient ASCT requires a dedicated caregiver for 24/7 care for at least 30 days. Many hospitals require caregiver agreements to ensure you have adequate support.

Sample Outpatient Treatment Schedule

Note that this schedule starts two days before your stem cell are transplanted and ends two days after transplantation.

  • Day -2: Admission for high-dose chemotherapy
  • Day -1: Rest day
  • Day 0: Stem cell infusion (Transplant Day!)
  • Day +1: Discharge if stable
  • Day +2 - Day +30: Daily clinic visits and recovery

If you live within 30 minutes of the hospital, you can stay at home. If you live farther away, you may need to stay nearby in temporary housing. Your transplant team will let you know ahead of time what will be expected of you.
