There are well over 100,000 individuals living with multiple myeloma in the United States. It is estimated that an additional 30,000 more individuals will be diagnosed this year. These individuals come from all walks of life…. urban, rural, educated, uneducated, baby boomer or young professional, some may have access to a myeloma specialist while others are working with a local oncologist, and some speak English as a second language.

Approximately 5-10% of individuals living with myeloma attend support groups. What about the remaining 90,000 people?  How do they find support and resources?

Receiving a diagnosis of myeloma can be frightening, overwhelming, and often isolating. Many have never even heard of myeloma before they were diagnosed and don’t know anyone who has it. The opportunity to talk with someone who can understand and relate can be “life-changing”

The Myeloma Coach by HealthTree program offers personalized one-on-one support to all myeloma patients and caregivers. Myeloma patients and caregivers volunteer to coach others through myeloma sharing not only their personal experience but also helpful resources and tools. Connecting with someone who can relate personally offers encouragement and hope knowing you are not alone.

If you are living with or caring for someone with myeloma-the Myeloma Coach program needs you! We currently have Coaches across the United States in thirty-two states, as well as many international. However, we want to extend our reach to include a Myeloma Coach in every state and beyond. We need individuals from all locations, and backgrounds.  

You don't need to know everything about myeloma to coach. Coaches receive initial and ongoing training and monthly support. There are frequent opportunities for education and learning. Coaches share the knowledge gained with those they Coach and can also apply it personally as they continue to navigate myeloma themselves. 

All Coach connections are made through the website. Coaching is completed in a way that works best for both individuals: by phone, text, email, video chat, or in person. This short video demonstrates how the program works.
