There are many resources that are available to help cancer patients. Most of us are aware of the American Cancer Society, Leukemia Cancer Society, and many others. Another organization you may not be as familiar with is the Patient Advocate Foundation. This foundation offers financial help for myeloma patients. But, like all other resources, you need to make sure you apply while the resources are available. Funds are on a first-come basis.

Let’s review some of the resources the Patient Advocate Foundation has available to individuals.  *NOTE* These resources are available at no charge to patients.

Personalized Case Management

To help patients navigate healthcare access and insurance issues.

  • They will help with navigating the reimbursement system from the initial insurance plan agreement process through denials and appeals
  • Help with health insurance eligibility, enrolling in Marketplace, Medicaid, or Medicare Plans
  • They provide referrals to other local, state, and national educational and financial resources
  • They provide case management services to patients that are uninsured ensuring access to care and enrollment into health insurance and/or other charity programs.
  • They provide educational services and assistance in implementing strategies that may prevent the future cost of living or medical debt crises, including enrolment in SSI or SSDI programs.

For more information or assistance in using these resources: call (800) 532-5274 Mon-Fri from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. EST or through the website at www.patientadvocate.org

Co-Payment Support

Patient Advocate Foundation offers patients direct financial assistance to reduce the burden of insurance co-payments so that patients can better afford their prescriptions. Patients are approved on a 12-month period and can reapply every year if necessary. They provide up to $12,000.00 in grants.

You can apply online at www.copays.org/diseases or by calling toll-free (866) 512-3861.

Please take advantage of this program. Even of you don’t think you may qualify. Many, many patients have been helped with their resources.
