At HealthTree Foundation, we are committed to amplifying the voices of those navigating cancer. We regularly share patient stories to build community and provide real-world insights that only those who have "been there" can offer.

In her own words, Dr. Jean Jones shares how her faith, care team, integrative medicine, and HealthTree programs have supported her after a multiple myeloma diagnosis.

While a multiple myeloma diagnosis changed many aspects of my life, one thing has remained unshaken—my faith in God. My foundation has always been rooted in Him, and through this journey, that faith has only grown stronger.

Diagnosis and how life changed

In March 2024, I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that affects bone marrow and bones. What began as persistent back pain led to the discovery of a spinal fracture and eventually more than seven fractures throughout my body.

Life changed quickly. I had to adjust to living with a compromised immune system, which meant taking daily precautions such as avoiding large crowds, being mindful of exposure to illness, wearing masks when needed, and prioritizing rest and healing. Simple things were no longer simple, but I learned to move with wisdom, patience, and grace.

Despite these changes, I held firmly to my confession: I am healed, restored, and whole.

Myeloma treatment and experience

The treatment journey included 16 weekly infusions of chemotherapy medications followed by a stem cell transplant. The transplant required a two-week hospital stay and a complete reset of my immune system. It was physically demanding and emotionally stretching, but I was not alone.

Through every step, I leaned on my faith, declaring God's promises over my life. Even in the most difficult moments, I experienced His peace, strength, and presence.

The role of integrative and naturopathic care

One of the most important decisions I made was to incorporate integrative and naturopathic medicine into the treatment plan recommended by my care team. I strongly believe in treating the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.

Having a naturopathic doctor as part of my medical team was invaluable. They helped support my body naturally alongside traditional medical treatments, focusing on nutrition, supplements, immune support, and overall wellness. This integrative approach helped me feel empowered and actively involved in my healing journey.

In addition to traditional and naturopathic care, I embraced a more holistic approach to healing by incorporating integrative practices that supported my body, mind, and spirit. This included participating in energy healing sessions, which helped restore balance and promote a sense of peace within my body. I also received acupuncture treatments, which reduced discomfort, improved circulation, and supported overall wellness. I chose to drink oxygenated water as part of my daily routine. Spiritually, one of the most powerful practices I committed to was partaking in daily communion—honoring the body and blood of Jesus Christ—which strengthened my faith and served as a daily reminder of God's healing promises.

Together, these practices complemented my medical treatments and allowed me to actively participate in my healing journey in a deeply personal and faith-centered way.

My healthcare team and support system

I was blessed with a compassionate and highly skilled healthcare team, including my oncologist and naturopathic doctor. They worked together to ensure I received comprehensive care, and their support gave me confidence throughout treatment.

Beyond my medical team, I was surrounded by love—through visits, messages, prayers, and encouragement. That support carried me in ways words cannot fully express.

My experience with HealthTree

The HealthTree community became a meaningful part of my journey. Through their programs, I found both education and connection.

What I would tell someone newly diagnosed

If you have recently been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, I want you to know this:

  • You are stronger than you think.
  • You are not alone.
  • This diagnosis is part of your story, but it does not define your future.

Advocate for yourself. Ask questions. Build a medical team that supports you fully. Consider integrative and naturopathic care alongside traditional treatment. Take care of your emotional and spiritual health just as much as your physical health. And most importantly, hold on to hope.

Advice for starting treatment

As you prepare for treatment:

  • Take it one day at a time.
  • Prepare your body with proper nutrition and rest.
  • Surround yourself with support.
  • Stay informed, but not overwhelmed.
  • Keep your faith strong.

Healing is not just physical. It is spiritual, emotional, and mental.

Living with multiple myeloma today

Today, I am living in remission, and I continue to walk in faith, believing in complete restoration. My journey has given me a renewed purpose—to encourage others, to share hope, and to testify to God's faithfulness.

Out of this journey, I wrote a book titled Faithful Through the Fire: A Journey of Healing and Hope, where I share my full testimony—every challenge, every victory, and every moment of faith that carried me through. If you are walking through your own fire, this book is for you.

It is my prayer that through my story, others will find healing, strength, and hope. No matter what you face, trust God. His word never changes. I am living proof that even in the fire, God is faithful.

Real stories. Real hope.
