Top 10 reasons to work with a Myeloma Coach in 2020 image

The Myeloma Coach program provides one-on-one help for myeloma patients. Here are our Top 10 reasons you should find or become a Myeloma Coach in 2020!

10. Become educated. Knowledge is key- as a patient it is essential to have accurate information to guide treatment decisions. Often times when diagnosed it’s easy to feel you are being buried in information.   A Coach can help you sift through information and process what is needed at each stage.  They can also help you locate and use resources such as HealthTree University where you can learn about myeloma and become empowered.

9. Financial support- finding a Coach who has experience utilizing financial resources/support can help ease the financial burden of myeloma treatment.

8. Find a myeloma specialist. Individuals with multiple myeloma who are treated by a specialist live longer.   A Myeloma Coach can help you find a specialist.

7. Register and complete your HealthTree profile. Coaches have experience using HealthTree.   HealthTree is a tool that allows myeloma patients to: explore treatment options, find personally relevant clinical trials, track their disease, share their myeloma story, and contribute de-identified data to advance a cure for myeloma.

6. Stay healthy!  Staying physically healthy and strong is essential in getting the most out of your myeloma treatment.  Myeloma Coaches can share what has helped them maintain their physical activity, exercise and nutrition during myeloma treatment.

5. You can work with more than one Coach, depending on your questions or needs.  Myeloma Coaches come from a variety of geographical areas with varied backgrounds and myeloma experiences.  Search for a Coach with experience in the areas you have questions or needs.

4. Research has shown working with a health Coach leads to improved quality of life.

3. Receive one on one support- from someone who has traveled the path of myeloma themselves or with their loved one.

2. Receive support that is tailored to your needs- Coaches can spend more time with you than the nurse, physician, or social worker can.  They will spend time with you answering questions, offering support and guiding you to helpful resources.

1.  Know you are not alone!  A myeloma diagnosis is overwhelming and frightening.  Connecting with a Myeloma Coach provides you with the comfort of knowing you have someone to talk to that can relate and assure you that you are not fighting this battle alone.
