Thank Your Myeloma Doctor on National Doctor Day During Myeloma Awareness Month
Thank Your Myeloma Doctor on National Doctor Day During Myeloma Awareness Month
Posted Apr 10, 2021

Today is National Doctors Day and it's time to take a minute or two to thank your myeloma doctor for their help in your care!

The first ether anesthetic for surgery was administered by Crawford W. Long, M.D. on March 30, 1842, marking the date for Doctors Day. On that day. Dr. Long used ether as anethesia to remove a neck tumor for a suffering patient. The patient said he felt nothing during the surgery, an important first in surgical history. National Doctors Day began in Winder, Georgia on March 30, 1933 with Dr. Charles B. Almond's wife, Eudora Brown Almond creating the day to honor physicians. The community mailed greeting cards and placed flowers on the graves of deceased doctors on this first celebration in 1933. The red carnation is commonly used as the symbolic flower for National Doctors Day.

In 1991, President George H.W. Bush proclaimed National Doctors Day to honor the Nation’s physicians for their dedication and leadership.

We have smart and caring physicians to thank today for the care they provide. The Myeloma Crowd is especially grateful for those providing excellent myeloma care, be they an oncologist, hematologist or myeloma specialist. We thank them for their amazing efforts to help us live longer, more productive lives and for their commitment to finding a myeloma cure.
