Katie Couric, (yes, that Katie Couric) gives a beautiful forward to Kathy Giusti’s powerful book, Fatal to Fearless.

In her forward she shares, “After years of coaching patients, navigating medical centers, biomarker tests, genomic tests, immune tests, Kathy knows what to do. She has identified simple and actionable steps any patient can take to access the best [cancer] care available.”

This powerful statement is a beautiful and accurate start to explaining the purpose behind Giusti’s memoir.

Kathy Giusti was diagnosed with multiple myeloma at a young age. With a small toddler at home and a promising career on the horizon, Kathy takes you through her raw experiences and fills her pages with authentic language.

Not only does she help you understand what things were like for her as she went through being diagnosed with myeloma, starting treatment, moving to be closer to family, and navigating complications with procedures and treatments for both myeloma and later breast cancer, but she also provides a section in each chapter with practical tips to navigating your own cancer journey and how to act accordingly.

“No matter how fearful we are of our diagnosis, we can find a way to beat the system, to turn the volume down on our fear- to fear less,” Kathy shares.

The book also contains powerful interviews with influential cancer care leaders, including the CEO of the American Cancer Society, the CEO of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the Global Oncology Research and Development Head at Johnson & Johnson, and more. Kathy is herself a cofounder of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF).

Kathy walks cancer patients through 12 steps, each with a sampling of her personal journey along with those "To-Do" lists that make a daunting diagnosis more of a practical reality.

"We can all ask ourselves what we would do if we were told we were going to die, but it's impossible to answer until you experience it firsthand." Thankfully, Giusti took her face-to-face experiences with mortality and is using her experiences to help others.

Truly one of my favorite myeloma memoirs that I have read, I recommend Kathy Giusti's new book, Fatal to Fearless, to anyone who is interested in learning more about her, is looking for help navigating their own cancer journey, or simply loves to read.
