Valarie embarked on her myeloma journey back in 2015, and ever since she's been on a mission. As a resilient myeloma thriver, her passion lies in not just navigating her own path but also in illuminating the journey for others. With a steadfast commitment to understanding the intricacies of the disease, she champions education, shedding light on health inequities that often lurk in the shadows. Driven by a profound belief in fairness, Valarie tirelessly advocates for equitable access to top-tier healthcare, clinical trials, and tailored treatments. Her journey as a beacon of knowledge and support began when she assumed the role of a support group leader. Today, she continues to extend her hand as a myeloma coach, mentor angel, and the guiding force behind the Black Myeloma Health Community. Valarie's voice echoes far and wide as she fearlessly confronts the disparities faced by myeloma patients. Through collaborative efforts with healthcare providers, she strives to forge pathways to solutions, ensuring that every individual receives the care they deserve. Join Valarie on her journey of empowerment and advocacy as she lights the way toward a brighter, more equitable future in myeloma care.
Delores Armstrong is a retired mother of three, grandmother of three, and great-grandmother of four. Since May 18, 2021, she has served as a dedicated caregiver for her eldest son, Richard, following his diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma. Her experience as a caregiver has given her extensive knowledge of this complex illness, its treatments, and the care required for those affected by it. Her commitment as a caregiver is grounded in providing unwavering emotional and spiritual support, believing that faith and hope are powerful assets in the fight against illness. Delores also devotes considerable time to reading about treatments, care, clinical trials, and nutrition, especially focusing on chronic kidney disease, which Richard also manages as a comorbidity of his MM diagnosis. She is grateful for Richard’s openness about his care needs, which has enabled her to accompany him through this journey, attending each appointment even three years into his diagnosis. HealthTree has been a vital resource for Delores and her family, offering essential information, support, and guidance for both patients and caregivers, making it an irreplaceable part of their journey.
Jimmie D. Carpenter Sr. is retired from A T & T and also retired with 34 years from the U.S. Army. He is an Assistant Pastor at Victory Apostolic Church where he serves over the visitation ministry. Jimmie is currently enrolled in Clinical Pastoral Education at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, IL Jimmie is married to Ida B Carpenter, who was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2020.
Robert Jackson has been a caregiver to his wife, Joan since he said 'I do' in 2016. Joan was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2003, and Robert has supported her with unwavering compassion. He works as a program assistant at Victory Programs, Inc., and caregiving is truly part of his spirit. He leads a ministry that helps individuals heal their hurts, habits, and hang-ups through biblical guidance each week. Robert is currently studying at Maryland Christian Counseling Academy, and he enjoys roller skating in his free time.
