Clinical Expertise

Dr. Grant is a Geriatric-Hematologist and a clinician-scientist. She leads a research program focused on addressing social disparities and their impact on the health and aging of older adults with multiple myeloma and their family caregivers. An important focus of her research lab is the development of culturally tailored social support interventions to better address the needs of the African American community affected by multiple myeloma.

Dr. Grants clinical and research activities are centered around enhancing the resiliency of older adults with cancer across the disease continuum. She uses geriatric assessments as one strategy to characterize the functional age of an older adult with cancer. She then uses this information to develop a personalized treatment plan for the individual’s cancer while evaluating the impact of cancer therapies on several key geriatric domains such as functional and cognitive health and quality of life. She is guided in her clinical practice and research activities by the Geriatrics 4Ms principles, which include mobility, medications, matters of the mind, and what matters most to older adults.
