How HealthTree Cure Team Volunteers Are Driving Change in Blood Cancer Care

At HealthTree, we believe in the power of community to fuel progress. That’s why we’ve built Regional Cure Teams. These local volunteer networks connect people affected by blood cancer with the tools, resources, and support they need.
Meet some of our incredible Cure Team members who are helping move the needle toward a cure, one connection at a time.
Kirk Lawson: Building Trust, Locally
When Kirk Lawson was diagnosed with blood cancer, he turned to HealthTree.org to learn more about his diagnosis. He didn’t just find information. He found a community.
Now a cancer coach and Cure Team lead for the New York Metro region, Kirk is deeply invested in giving back to his community. He sees regional networks as essential in building the support that transforms individual journeys and accelerates broader research goals.
“Because ultimately, it’s about building relationships of trust with these communities and individuals, and you really need to do that by being in their backyard so to speak, so you can have impact at a local level in furthering care that you yourself will benefit from, but also be a part of something bigger than yourself, to really further advance the science of care.”
– Kirk Lawson
Jeff Adamson: Taking Action Together
For Jeff Adamson, Northeast Regional Cure Team captain, one HealthTree tool stands out: CureHub.
It’s a platform where patients share their data securely, enabling researchers to spot trends and make discoveries that wouldn’t be possible otherwise.
“The more people we can get into CureHub sharing their data, the more researchers will be able to maybe find that nugget of information that’s going to lead to a cure.”
– Jeff Adamson
Jeff sees Cure Teams as the action arm of HealthTree—volunteers working together to educate others and extend the reach of programs like CureHub.
“Cure Teams is a great place to meet like-minded, motivated individuals who want to work to spread the word about what HealthTree is, what CureHub is. I look at it as an action group—a group of people who want to take action.
When we come together, we create real change. Join a Cure Team, you’ll get more out of it than you put into it.”

Ken & Joanne Levy: Paying It Forward
Jeff’s passion for the mission inspired Ken and Joanne Levy, now co-captains of the Northeast Cure Team. After hearing Jeff speak at a support meeting, they reached out, and he soon became Ken’s personal coach.
That initial connection blossomed into long-term involvement. Jeff invited the Levys to join the Coach Program, and now they’re helping others navigate the same path they once walked.
“Why not just try to do more for HealthTree and more for CureHub, to get the word out there to try to get much closer to a cure—that’s what Cure Teams are really all about.”
– Ken Levy
For Joanne, it’s simple:
“We all have a similar goal, to find a cure for disease.”
– Joanne Levy
