Information is the best way to put someone at ease. When they know what to expect, and they trust in you are doing for them, it makes the whole process much, much easier for the patient.
The treatment that we have to give for acute leukemia is very intensive. And it can be very taxing on the patient physically, mentally, emotionally. And so I feel that it’s my job as the doctor to guide them through this process and try to make it as smooth as possible by giving them as much information as I can about their disease. And then giving them support emotionally — that’s probably the most important part of what I do.
