I was a caregiver to my husband for 12 years. I am now a Board Certified Patient Advocate an Oncology Patient Navigator as well as a Financial Advisor of more than 22 years. As the HealthTree Financial Program Manager and lead Financial Coach, I help patients negotiate the financial side of cancer care to reduce financial toxicity. I can help you locate financial assistance to help you stay on treatment. Any financial questions you have from budgeting, SSDI, FMLA, SSI, Retirement, Medicare, Medicaid, Life Insurance, medical bill management etc., I would be glad to provide you with guidance. Steve Hodges

AML coach since 2023

Steve is an AML patient who has had 7+3, FLAG, multiple consolidations and additional Aza/Ven cycles pursuant to achieving complete remission through a Bone Marrow Transplant in late February 2023. My leukemia is in remission, despite an adverse prognosis, and my substantial GVHD challenges are under control. My immune system has not reconstituted but I've worked out ways to see people and limit my risk. I enjoy the little things: sunshine, What's for lunch? What's for dinner? Can I get a low-cost Bluetooth gizmo to use on Zoom calls? Can we have a cup of coffee together at an off time? I love playing piano for people at the hospital, the hospice, and online Sunday Zooms. Steve grew up working on cattle and horse farms. He’s an amateur pianist who plays regularly for Hospital, Hospice, and others. He is a retired IT professional, and an active volunteer with several health and hospital Patient/Family councils. He is an active board member for youth and adult musical organizations. Steve likes books, hiking/walking and podcasts. He's a trained end-of-life advocate who holds an MSW, a dad and very happy grandfather.

I was a caregiver from my husband for two years. He had AML. I went to all of his appointments and looked up many things online just to try to find out more and to be able to ask intuitive questions. Knowledge is powerful and helps us to get through many things once we understand more about a situation.My husband also had diabetes and COPD and we needed to balance that with his treatments. I helped him as an advocate when he needed it, especially with the veterans administration. I would love to help you find the answers you are looking for. I understand the struggle with AML and I’m very happy to be a part of this organization to be able to reach out to you and help you with any of your needs from helping with a new diagnosis, to helping you understand more about the disease and to help you navigate the website to find the answers you’re looking for. Although I do not have AML I was my husband’s support system. I love to exercise, read, go to live theater and concerts, and do wine tasting dinners. I enjoy life.
