Event Description

The Mountain West Myeloma Community Chapter welcomes Rebekah Tobin, RN and Takeda PALS team members as she shares with us the importance of understanding our myeloma labs. Learn as she walks us through a background on the immune system and multiple myeloma, discusses the importance of laboratory tests, and explains the laboratory tests used for multiple myeloma. No matter what stage of multiple myeloma you are in, this session is for you!

This event will not be recorded, please make sure to attend in person if possible.

The panelist Audrey Burton-Bethke
Audrey Burton-Bethke

Audrey joined the HealthTree Foundation as the Myeloma Community Program Director in 2020. While not knowing much about myeloma at the start, she has since worked hard to educate herself, empathize and learn from others' experiences. She loves this job. Audrey is passionate about serving others, loves learning, and enjoys a nice mug of hot chocolate no matter the weather.

The panelist Nico Cheek-O'Donnell
Nico Cheek-O'Donnell

Nico joined the Multiple Myeloma Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute in 2016, as its licensed clinical social worker. Before that, he was a social worker with Intermountain, primarily at LDS Hospital on their inpatient behavioral unit. He earned his Master of Social Work degree at the University of Utah. Originally from New York & Boston, Nico earned undergraduate degrees in Psychology & Theatre from Carleton College in Minnesota. He earned most of his very modest living as a stage actor in Minneapolis and Seattle for eight years, before moving to Utah in 2006. More recently, Nico has used role-play to help train physicians how to navigate especially difficult patient conversations – and to entertain his 13 & 9-year-old kids.

The panelist Rebekah Tobin, RN, BSN
Rebekah Tobin, RN, BSN

Rebekah is an Oncology Registered Nurse and has more than 10 years of experience in cancer care. She specializes in working to enhance patients’ overall well-being, this work included helping educate patients about what to expect during treatment and managing infusion care, symptoms, and side effects. In recent years, Rebekah has focused on medical education about the evolving management of certain cancers, and on serving as a resource for other healthcare professionals. She is dedicated to educating patients and their loved ones so they can become their own best advocates. care coordination, and care of patients following heart, lung, and blood vessel surgery. Rebekah is driven by her curiosity and a yearning to better understand the needs of the patient community.
