Clinical Expertise

Dr. Matsui's research integrates cancer, developmental, and stem cell biology. His laboratory originally characterized stem cells in the plasma cell malignancy multiple myeloma then expanded their studies to include solid tumors and malignant hematopoiesis. His research is focused on defining the determinants of self-renewal in cancer and the development of novel therapeutic strategies. Dr. Matsui's research is notable for its consistently translational approach, and his preclinical findings have served as the scientific basis for over a dozen clinical trials. Dr. Matsui's research has been supported by the NIH and the National Cancer Institute, The International Myeloma Foundation, The Sidney Kimmel Foundation for Cancer Research, The Gabrielle's Angel Foundation, The Lustgarten Foundation, The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
