About

Dr. Peter Emanuel is internationally renowned for his bench-to-bedside research in both pediatric and adult forms of leukemia. Dr. Emanuel has been named to the \The Best Doctors in America\" listing every year since 2001 and to Castle Connolly’s “America's Top Doctors for Cancer” list since 2009. He formerly served as editor-in-chief of The Hematologist published by The American Society of Hematology (ASH). ASH's annual meeting attracts more than 25000 hematologists and scientists globally. He also served on ASH's executive committee and chaired its communications committee. Since 2010 he served on ASH's Consult a Colleague service where is an expert in myeloproliferative neoplasms. He moved to the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where he finished his training with an internship and residency in internal medicine and a subspecialty fellowship in hematology/oncology. After completing training he joined the faculty at UAB where he served as a professor in the Departments of Medicine Genetics and Biochemistry. From 2004-2006 Dr. Emanuel served as acting director of the National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB. He then served as director of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at UAMS and oversaw its addition of a 12-story research and treatment tower that opened in 2010. Dr. Peter Emanuel was raised in Wisconsin and attended medical school at the University of Wisconsin. He joined CHI St. Vincent in September 2018."
