Is there a relationship between AL amyloidosis and Alzheimer's disease, which are both associated with amyloid deposition?

A very common question we get is, is there a relationship between al amyloidosis and Alzheimer's disease, which are both associated with amyloid deposition? There are some research based connections between the two. Amyloid is amyloid. And so if you're developing medications to, let's say, absorbed amyloid, there could be theoretical applications on both sides.

But patients with al amyloidosis are at no higher risk of Alzheimer's. There is no clinical connection between dementia and having al amyloidosis. Certainly hearing the term amyloid and Googleing it is going to bring up some of those concerns. But these patients have nothing to worry about as it relates to dementia.
