About

As a science major in college, I enjoyed understanding how things worked, particularly the biology of living organisms. Using that knowledge to heal people by solving clinical problems added an exciting dimension to my love of science and led to my pursuit of a career in medicine.

When people come to me with a set of complaints and symptoms, I combine that information with test results to solve a complex puzzle and come up with a diagnosis and treatment plan.

I primarily treat people with hematologic conditions, such as platelet disorders and anemia, as well as cancerous conditions, such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. I am also the site director for Perlmutter Cancer Center—38th Street, coordinating staff members who care for patients with benign and malignant hematologic disease, neuro-oncological disorders, and gynecologic cancerous conditions.

In addition to treating patients, I serve as the principal investigator for several hematology clinical trials. Our team is collaborating on these clinical trials with the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group, a cooperative group formed by the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group and the American College of Radiology Imaging Network. I am also heavily involved in teaching at NYU School of Medicine, directing the second year hematology course and teaching medical residents and hematology fellows.

I am honored to have been named by Castle Connolly as one of the “Top Doctors” for hematology, as featured in New York Magazine, for the last 10 years. I was given the Best Teacher Award by the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in 2012. I have also received the Faculty Member of the Year Award from NYU Langone’s Division of Hematology on several occasions during the last 15 years. I am a member of the American Society of Hematology, as well as the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

I apply my curiosity and thirst for knowledge to my interactions with patients and their families, as well as students, residents, and medical colleagues. I believe this has made me a better doctor and a better person.
