Join the Black Myeloma Health Movement for Research
Who We Are
Black Myeloma Health is an initiative within the HealthTree Foundation designed to address the unique challenges faced by African Americans (AA) diagnosed with myeloma. This program aims to reduce health disparities by providing tailored resources, education, and support for Black myeloma patients and their families.
BMH focuses on increasing awareness about the disease, particularly in Black communities, which are disproportionately affected by myeloma. The initiative also encourages participation in clinical trials, promotes early diagnosis, and provides access to expert care. Through community outreach, events, and a dedicated online platform, Black Myeloma Health seeks to empower patients with the knowledge and tools needed to advocate for their health and improve treatment outcomes.
What We're Doing
The BMH Movement for Research is a campaign that shifts our focus from awareness to active participation in clinical research. We're calling on the AA community to get involved in myeloma research, as representation in clinical trials is crucial for developing effective treatments for all populations.
When You Can Join
While our main event took place in August, we've extended the campaign until the end of the year. This gives everyone a chance to be part of this important movement, even if they missed the initial event.
How You Can Participate
-
Sign Up: Visit our website to register for the campaign.
-
Get Your Gear: Upon registration, you'll receive a limited edition t-shirt (while supplies last) that symbolizes your commitment to the cause.
-
Move and Share: Choose a physical activity that represents your personal fight against myeloma. It could be walking, dancing, running, gardening or any movement that resonates with you.
-
Capture the Moment: Take a picture of yourself in your BMH Movement t-shirt while performing your chosen activity.
-
Spread the Word: Post your photo on social media using the hashtag #BlackMyelomaHealth. Share your story and why you're participating in the movement.
Why Your Participation Matters
-
Representation in Research: AA are underrepresented in myeloma clinical trials, despite being at higher risk for the disease. Your participation helps change this.
-
Community Awareness: By sharing your involvement, you raise awareness about myeloma in the AA community.
-
Support for Patients: Your participation shows solidarity with those battling myeloma and their families.
-
Advancing Treatment: Increased participation in research leads to better understanding of how myeloma affects AA, potentially leading to more effective treatments.
Together, We Are Stronger
Every post, every share, and every participant brings us one step closer to better outcomes for African Americans affected by myeloma. Your involvement not only raises awareness but also actively contributes to advancing research and treatment options.
Join us in the BMH Movement for Research. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against myeloma in the AA community.
