Can someone be MRD negative but still relapse? So can you be MRD negative and still relapse? So unfortunately, yes. We know that the likelihood of relapsing is much less for patients who achieve MRD negativity. However, MRD negativity doesn't necessarily mean cure. And that's because as advanced as our technologies are now to detect leukemia, just because we can't detect it doesn't mean it's not there. And that's why in many cases, even once a patient achieves MRD negativity, their doctor will still recommend to continue chemotherapy to eradicate the leukemia that might have been left behind that we still can't detect.
