About

Dennis L. Cooper, MD, is Chief, Bone Marrow Transplantation and Professor, Medicine at Montefiore Einstein. His clinical focus centers on treating patients with multiple myeloma, hodgkin's lymphoma, non-hodgkin's lymphoma including bone marrow transplantation and CAR T cell therapy.

After graduating from Loyola University of Chicago in 1975, Dr. Cooper completed his Doctor of Medicine at Rush Medical College in 1979. He then went to Yale-New Haven Hospital to complete his internship and residencies in internal medicine in 1982. Dr. Cooper became Chief Resident in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburgh in 1983, and then participated in a medical oncology fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital, completing it in 1985.

Dr. Cooper’s research focuses on clinical trials for multiple myeloma and lymphoma and in the area of bone marrow transplant, he is interested in the use of alternative donor transplants (for patients who don’t have a family match) as well as the impact of social determinants of health. Recently, he has published studies involving COVID-19 vaccine responses in patients with plasma cell dyscrasias after complete vaccination, persistent opioid use in patients with multiple myeloma post ASCT and posttransplant cyclophosphamide as part of standard immunoprophylaxis for all allogeneic transplants. His work has been published in many peer-reviewed journals and articles.

Dr. Cooper is a member of the American Society of Hematology and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology. He has won multiple awards, including the Yale Cancer Center Clinical Excellence award from Yale Cancer Center in 2010 and the Vida Award from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 2018.
