How have allo transplants
spurred a revolution
in immunotherapy in myeloma?
So it's actually the reverse.
So the reverse is that,
so allo transplantation
is really not the revolutionary thing.
I think that all transplantation provides
the evidence that the immune system
can fight myeloma, destroy myeloma
when the myeloma is resistant
to everything else.
So now that allows you to think of that
idea of how do I use the immune system
to fight myeloma?
And that leads to things like CAR-T cells.
And things like,
antibodies that will bind to T-cells
and bind to plasma cells.
So it's really the idea
that the immune system could fight cancer
comes from allogeneic transplantation.
It itself might not be the way
that we use the immune system.
But if you say what's the evidence that
the immune system does anything to cancer,
that is the number one way to show it.
It is by using someone else's immune system
to destroy the cancer.
So it's really the foundation
rather than being
the next sort of phase
or revolution of what we do.
I think a lot of it's going to be things
like CAR-T cells, but it sets the stage
and it sets
the intellectual foundation
that says those things
probably have a chance of working.
