Clinical trials shape the future of medicine, but are they truly representing everyone who will use these treatments? In this video, you will learn why diversity and inclusion are so important in clinical trials, and how including people from different backgrounds helps researchers develop treatments that are safer and more effective for everyone. Why is diversity and inclusion important in clinical trials? Diversity in clinical trials is needed to ensure a drug is safe and effective across a broad, diverse patient population. Diversity is needed in clinical trials because we're talking about patients, and every patient is different. And a clinical trial only looks at a small group individuals. So, for example, a clinical trial might be 100 participants or 200 participants. But when a medication is approved, the medication is used in the entire population. we need to know as much as we can learn about the medications that are being used in a clinical trial and what side effects it may have, how it might affect different patient populations, because, again, the biological differences canmake a difference in terms of the outcomes. And so that's going to be important to know. And those outcomes could be survival outcomes. But it could also be adverse toxicity outcomes we should have a diversity just because we can include everyone and, and also the treatment going to be applied to everyone when the results coming out. So the people are different regarding the genetic biology, social, other comorbidities, economy, and that can affectresult of the treatment. having good diversity help us to generalize the treatment.
