Introduction.

Hello. My name is Diahanna Vallentine.

As a financial coach, I want to help you avoid financial toxicity by managing health care bills, family budgets, assisting with your insurance review and finding financial resources so you can focus on your health.

Every person has unique needs, but I like to cover topics that can help every cancer patient and their families manage their financial lives.

Let me tell you a bit about myself.

I have been a financial advisor for over 20 years. I am a board certified financial advocate and I'm certified as an oncology financial advocate.

I have also served as board chair of the Kentucky and Indiana chapter of the Leukemia Lymphoma Society from 2015 to 2017,

I became interested in financial planning for the critically ill and chronically ill after my husband was diagnosed with them in 2002 and myeloma in 2005, and then acted as his caregiver until his death in 2013.

I walked many halls at night and met too many family members who were overwhelmed with medical bills and concerned about their ability to continue to help their families and put food on the table because of an ill spouse or child.

I decided this was my calling one night after meeting a woman in the dining hall at about 2:00 in the morning after remembering, seeing her in our unit, she was crying because her 16 year old son had just had a bone marrow transplant eight days prior and was not expected to live.

She was concerned about her other young children because her home was being foreclosed on, even though her husband was working two full time jobs trying to keep up with the medical bills.

I am currently working with a HealthTree myeloma coach program, assisting cancer patients with their financial concerns and their needs associated with treatment.

we wanted to make these videos to give you the advice I give to any cancer patient in an accessible way.
