BETA - Can myeloma therapy be received through a dialysis port?

So lots of patients ask whether you can receive your myeloma therapy through a dialysis port. And I think that there's two questions here. Number one, when a patient is on dialysis, we have to be very careful about the timing we give our therapy for. As in, we don't want to give the therapy and then it gets dialyzed straight out of the body. So we usually tend to give our myeloma therapy after the patient has had dialysis. That's one thing. And then the second thing is we potentially could give it through the same port. However, the kidney doctors would not be very happy with us, I think is the answer. In the fact that as a general rule, we leave the port to the kidney doctors because they are experts and their nursing staff are experts at accessing it and managing it. That's number one. And then the second thing is there's always the concern that the treatment we give might actually irritate the veins around the dialysis port. And the last thing we want to do is to irritate any veins and cause any inflammation or any scarring to the dialysis port. So although it's a theoretical possibility, generally we stay very much away from it and say that is definitely something for the kidney doctors and we'll use somewhere else.
