What are some good tips that are beyond therapeutics for good health within myeloma? So trying to stay active. Myeloma can be challenging because of the burden of bone disease that we see.
So begin with a discussion with your provider about what types of activities you can do. And even if you can't exercise going on the treadmill or an exercise bike, staying active, limiting some sedentary time, keeping up with your activities of daily living, all of those will improve your reserve, your endurance, and hopefully ultimately make you feel better as you go through therapy.
Sleep can be a really big challenge in myeloma particularly when patients are taking dexamethasone which are a part of most therapies. So again, having a frank conversation with your provider about the effects of the dexamethasone, we can lower those doses. We can have you take them at different times of the day. We can cut those back and sometimes cut them out.
So that's a really important consideration. But really trying to get good sleep, good quality sleep is so important.
Nutrition patients ask about nutrition all the time. The American Cancer Society recommends a plant based diet. Again, this is a diet, two thirds of which are inclusive of fruits and vegetables, fibrous, trying to stay away from red meats and refined sugars.
All of these are ultimately going to help your overall health, which will hopefully make you feel better during your myeloma therapy.
