What is integrative oncology?

What is integrative oncology? Why is it important?

So what is integrative ecology and what are the benefits? So integrative oncology is a new field that's been really growing over the past decade or so, where we're looking at nonstandard approaches and how we can combine them together with standard approaches to cancer care. So it's really a subset of integrative medicine. What really separates that from, say, complementary or alternative approaches is that it has to be evidence based approaches.

So things that have or therapies that have research to really demonstrate their value and also we understand their risks. And so what's the benefit for patients is that it really can help expand your cancer team's available toolkit in terms of how do we manage your symptoms, your quality of life, and potentially other options to think about as part of your cancer treatment.

So we can think about pain management stress. Helping you sleep better. So a lot of different ways we can help improve how you're feeling as you go through treatment and help you improve your overall cancer treatment and into survivorship.
