[Music] what genetic testing should an individual diagnosed with myeloma have done so the genetic testing for multiple myeloma is very very important before I explain what we do let me just make a brief comment these are the genes that are altered or changed in the myeloma cells these are not genetic changes that we think of as you know the ones you pass on from generation to generation so these are exclusively restricted to the myeloma cells now this genetic changes dictate if you may the flavors of myeloma and how we think about those flavors what we think about prognosis what we think about the different treatments depends on the results from those genetic markers at the very least we say that people should be tested with strategies like fish but then there's other tools such as gene expression profiling and next-generation sequencing that can be used to further characterize the genetic makeup of those myeloma cells but at the minimum patients should have a fish testing for their myeloma cells [Music]
