iStopMM Trial - Covid Vaccine and Impact on Myeloma | Malin Hultcrantz, MD, PhD | ASH 2022

Hi, my name is Marlen Holtgrens and I am an attending physician in the myeloma service at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York. So many EMGAS patients have had concerns about the COVID-19 vaccine. And what we saw this morning from the large screening trial that is ongoing in Iceland, the I-STOP-MM trial, was that EMGAS patients that have had the COVID vaccine, the M-SPIKE was exactly the same before and after getting the vaccine. So getting the COVID-19 vaccine does not impact the risk of progression in EMGAS, which is really important information for all of our patients and especially for the EMGAS patients, that this is safe and it does not affect the progression of EMGAS. Similarly, we saw in a study that was published by the same group last year was that the risk of COVID, both contracted COVID and developing severe COVID, was not increased in EMGAS patients. So for EMGAS patients, we really do recommend, of course, to get the vaccine, but we can also safely say that these patients do not have an increased risk of getting severe COVID or getting COVID in general.
