Many myeloma patients are familiar with monoclonal antibodies, or antibodies that target a specific protein on the surface of myeloma cells. Researchers Dr. Dirk Hose and Dr. Anja Seckinger of the University of Heidelberg in Germany are working on a new bi-specific antibody that joins a powerful myeloma-killing T cell with the target BCMA to selectively target myeloma cells. BCMA is found on many myeloma cells and has become a popular target for a variety of immunotherapies. On a single myeloma cell, over 2,000 BCMA molecules can be present.
