Recovery after CAR T-cell therapy takes time as your immune system slowly rebuilds. The first 30 days after the infusion are considered the acute recovery period. During this time:
- Side effects such as fatigue, low appetite, infection, or neurologic symptoms like confusion may occur.
- You’ll need to remain close to your treatment center so your care team can closely monitor your condition.
- A primary caregiver or support person must stay with you at all times to watch for symptoms and contact your care team if needed.
While you may feel tired, gradually returning to daily activities is encouraged based on how you're feeling. You’ll also receive a CAR T-cell therapy wallet card that should be shown to any provider or emergency room staff. Remember to contact your care provider if anything feels out of the ordinary or if you have concerns about your symptoms.
