Before procedures like the Stem Cell Transplant or CAR T therapy, caregivers often wonder what their responsibilities will look like in the coming weeks and months.

Here to help provide some guidance are two experienced caregivers who did the best they could during their partner's procedure and recovery. They are willing to help others by sharing their experience.

Audrey Burton-Bethke

Audrey joined the HealthTree Foundation as the Myeloma Community Program Director in 2020. While not knowing much about myeloma at the start, she has since worked hard to educate herself, empathize and learn from others' experiences. She loves this job. Audrey is passionate about serving others, loves learning, and enjoys a nice mug of hot chocolate no matter the weather.

Barbara Hubbard

Barbara is wife and caregiver to her husband Mike Hubbard, who has been cancer-free since completing a CAR-T clinical trial in September of 2020. Mike was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2017 and underwent a stem-cell transplant and several other treatments prior to CAR-T. Barbara and Mike have been married for 43 years and have two grown sons, both of whom are married and have 2-year old girls. Barbara is a freelance writer and marketing consultant for tech companies. She also does volunteer mentoring for high-school students.

My name is Rick McFarlin and I’m the husband of Jackie McFarlin. I’m a retired Army veteran and have recently retired from BNSF Railway. We’ve been married for 34 years on our 30th anniversary right before going to Jamaica to celebrate Jackie became ill and I began the role of a caregiver.
