Exploring Stem Cell Transplant Experiences

Audrey joined the Myeloma Crowd as the Community Manager in 2020 after previously working in the nonprofit field for 4 years as a director of Fundraising and Development. She graduated from BYU with a major in Spanish and Nonprofit Management. Audrey is passionate about serving others, loves learning, and enjoys a nice mug of hot chocolate no matter the weather.

Barb was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2006. She had her autologous stem cell transplant in 2007. “The process for me was rather smooth,” she said. “The biggest challenge was that I was quite tired for several months afterward, and I was also dealing with bone problems caused by the myeloma.” Her advice is to learn as much as you can about your disease and about your treatment options. “It’s not what happens to you, but how you respond,” said Barb. Today, Barb enjoys walking, playing golf and bridge, and traveling with her husband. She is grateful that she can spend time with her two grandchildren, other family members, and friends. “There was a time,” she said, “when I didn’t think I would live long enough for the opportunity to be a grandma.” She became a Journey Partner to give back by sharing her story that hopefully will encourage others in their journey with multiple myeloma.
