Speakers & Moderators
Dr. Sarah Rutherford is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at Weill Cornell Medicine. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine. She completed Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Rutherford has clinical expertise in lymphoma. Her research focuses on improving outcomes in patients with aggressive lymphomas. She has a particular interest in helping patients to have an accurate understanding of their diagnosis. She has received honors from Weill Cornell Medical College and the American Society of Hematology, and support from the New York State Empire Clinical Research Investigator Program for her research in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. She has experience in caring for patients with a variety of lymphomas and hematologic disorders including Hodgkin lymphoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, follicular lymphoma, mantle cell lymphoma, and marginal zone lymphoma.
Samuel Yamshon, M.D. is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine/New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Yamshon cares for patients with blood cancers with a specific focus on lymphoma and improving outcomes for patients using innovative treatments like cellular immunotherapies including CAR T-cell therapy. Dr. Yamshon received his B.A. from Columbia University and completed his medical training at the University of California, Davis. He returned to New York to train in Internal Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, where he also completed his fellowship in Hematology and Oncology. At Weill Cornell Medicine, he specializes in treating patients with lymphoma using cellular therapies including bone marrow transplantation and CAR T cell therapy, and is involved in clinical research dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with lymphoma. He has been involved in lymphoma research for over a decade, co-authoring numerous publications and several presentations at national meetings. Dr. Yamshon is also an Editorial Fellow for the journal Leukemia & Lymphoma. He has received multiple research grants including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Young Investigator Award and the Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) Scientific Research Mentoring Program.
Talal Hilal, M.D., is a hematologist/oncologist and bone marrow transplant physician with a clinical focus on chronic lymphocytic leukemia, lymphoid malignancies, and rare histiocytic neoplasms. Dr. Hilal attended medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He obtained training in internal medicine at the University of Kentucky and in hematology/oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona where he served as Chief Fellow. Dr. Hilal's clinical practice focuses on the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, various types of lymphoma, and histiocytic neoplasms. He is interested in incorporating various modalities of therapy that help serve individual patient needs, including using novel targeted therapies, bispecific T-cell engagers, and cellular therapy. He is part of the bone marrow transplant and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy programs where he prescribes specialized treatments for patients with lymphoid malignancies.
Kat is from Lehi, Utah and is the Health Education Manager for lymphoma. She has worked in healthcare for a decade now, and earned her degree in Community Health Education and Promotion. Kat is passionate about disease prevention as well as improving quality of life and health equity. She enjoys reading, hiking, baking, ice skating, gardening, time with her family and friends, and most of all, spoiling her nieces and nephew.
