What percentage of patients are cured who have an allogeneic transplant?

In certain acute myeloid leukemia, transplant is the only curative modality that we can offer them.

So in the patients who have the adverse risk features, chemotherapy alone will not cure them.

So transplant is curative.

If you take everyone as a whole, it's really hard to give a generalized number about the likelihood of long-term success for a transplant.

But you could say that the likelihood that a person will be alive and leukemia-free five years after a transplant, it would probably be anywhere from 40 to 50%.

So not perfect, much better than it used to be.

But the alternative is that a person might die with leukemia or might not be cured at all and subsequently have 100% risk of death with active leukemia.

So for us, we counsel patients significantly on the risk-benefit of a transplant.

And in most cases we find the benefit more than the risk.

AML, allogeneic transplant is considered curative therapy.

The best way to go into allogeneic stem cell transplant is in remission.

And so what we use the transplant for is part of consolidation.

So to consolidate remission, those patients that have a diverse risk or intermediate risk AML, if they have a good donor option and if they're in decent shape for transplant, their consolidation consists of stem cell transplant or bone marrow transplant, which is the same thing.

And the goal is to maintain cure, to cure them.

So it is absolutely curative intent.
