What is the role of a caregiver in the transplant setting? Caregiver in the transplant setting is very important, but it's perhaps not for the reasons people think. We don't expect a caregiver after a transplant to be full service to the patient. We really need them there as an advocate. So sometimes the patient won't feel well. They won't feel like calling if they're in trouble. They won't feel like telling us about symptoms that are important. It's a lot to take in. It's a lot to process. Some patients have fatigue from treatment. So it's important to have someone with them all the time for at least those first hundred days so they can call when they need us, so they can get them what they need, so they can support them through a very difficult time. So the mental aspects and the physical aspects are very important. But the duties of a caregiver are really to be the advocate, to be there. You don't have to understand everything that's happening. You don't have to be an expert, although if you want to be, that's great. But just be there, available, be willing to work with the team, and that supports our patients the most. There is some caregiver fatigue along the way, but it's usually because the treatment for acute myeloid leukemia is not brief. It's extensive. It's tiring. But most of our caregivers are pretty familiar with what's needed even before a transplant comes into play. So just a word of encouragement is just to be present when you can, be available. And that's one of the most important things that our caregivers can provide.
