Dr. Jennifer Marvin-Peek from MD Anderson Cancer Center presents results from a phase 1b/2 trial combining three drugs for IDH1-mutated acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in elderly and unfit patients.

ABOUT IDH1-MUTATED AML:
IDH1 mutations occur in about 7-8% of AML patients, more commonly in older adults. These patients often can't receive intensive chemotherapy due to age or health issues.

PREVIOUS TREATMENT OPTIONS:
- Ivosidenib alone or with azacitidine: 50-67% remission, lasting 1-2.5 years
- Azacitidine with another targeted drug: Similar results

THE NEW APPROACH:
Combining all THREE drugs together:
- Azacitidine
- Venetoclax
- Ivosidenib

IMPRESSIVE RESULTS:
- 40 patients enrolled with newly diagnosed AML
- 38/40 responded to treatment
- 37/40 achieved complete remission (92.5%)
- About half went on to transplant
- 3-year follow-up: 80% still living
- Well tolerated with no additive side effects

WHY IT MATTERS:
For elderly and unfit AML patients with IDH1 mutations, this combination offers much higher remission rates and better survival than current standard treatments.
