So AML is one of the blood cancers and as such we typically think of it as spread throughout the body at the point of first diagnosis. Typically most AML would be starting in the blood factory which in adult patients is primarily in the hips or the breast bone. Young children have other places where they can make blood so it may start in other areas but it typically is spread throughout the body wherever blood is circulated.
