How long does it take to find a transplant donor? So it actually doesn't take that long. To get the HLA genotyping for a patient, it usually takes about two weeks and we can usually get confirmatory typing within about two weeks. So I tell my patients that from the time of knowing we need a transplant to getting to a transplant actual admission, I try to say at best we can probably do that whole process in about six weeks. It usually accounts to about eight weeks, but we can usually move pretty quickly. We don't always have to move that quickly, but we could if we needed to.
