What testing is most important to monitor AML over time? After treatment is completed or once the patient has achieved a complete remission, we generally monitor only with peripheral blood tests, so complete blood counts. If the blood counts, if there's anything suspicious in the blood counts, if say the platelets are dropping or the white count drops or increases, then we repeat a bone marrow aspiration and biopsy to confirm our suspicions. But generally speaking, a complete blood count is all that's necessary for follow-up.
