Other than a palliative care doctor, who else might be on my palliative care team?

Other than a palliative care doctor, who else might be on my palliative care team? The palliative care team in its best version is a truly interdisciplinary team. So we talk a lot in cancer care about multidisciplinary teams. That would be like when you have the surgeon and the radiation oncologist and the medical oncologist, but everybody's an oncologist and they're all MDs or DOs. That's multidisciplinary. Interdisciplinary is when we're talking about different kinds of people from entirely different fields and professions. So we have not only the MD or the nurse practitioner or the physician assistant type of traditional clinician who might be trained and maybe even board certified or have a certificate in palliative medicine as a specialty, but also other kinds of clinicians like nurses or chaplains or social workers or pharmacists. And some teams even have some other kinds of specialized folks, case managers and other folks like that who could be part of the palliative care team to help you. But actually every team is unique and we are very under resourced as a field in palliative medicine. So it really depends on where you are. Every team is going to look quite different. Some places only have the physicians or the APPs, the nurse practitioners and the PAs. Others have much larger, more robust interdisciplinary teams like I just described.
