I am also interested in the use of next generation sequencing technologies to measure disease response in myelodsysplastic syndromes and acute myeloid leukemia. We have demonstrated that can identify and track malignant clones during therapy with hypomethylating agents and may be an alternative measure of antitumor activity to supplement traditional response criteria which are based primarily on bone marrow morphology. These next generation sequencing approaches are being tested in the context of larger randomized studies being conducted in AML.
