How can I incorporate flexibility into my fitness routine?
So yoga is a wonderful flexibility training that also helps things like strength and balance and coordination. So that's a great example. We've made several exercise videos that are on YouTube and on our website that are free to anybody who's looking for cancer patient exercise videos. Those are on the MGH website and YouTube for anybody who needs them for free, they're done with a physical therapist to show modifications. But those types of yoga exercises, gentle stretching, you don't ever want to stretch to the point where you feel like you're going to hurt something, but that is absolutely very important and staying active. So sometimes there'll be periods in your treatment where you're unable to do exercise, but even just activities of daily living, emptying the dishwasher, doing the laundry, doing things that keep you mobile and bending and turning in gentle ways are very important. You don't want to stop doing if you can avoid it.
How can patients locate your exercise videos on YouTube?
It’s just MGH cancer exercise videos. You'll find them and there are eight of them to easy to medium to hard that are just, strength and fitness one yoga and then one cardio dance. And they're all with modifications that avoid jumping as well. So I have one person who might do like jumping jacks and another who modifies. But I think similarly there are other programs, throughout the country people are really getting into this idea of trying to deliver exercise to the home. but it's doable in your home and certainly my goal is to make these types of resources free and accessible to all cancer patients.
