World Lymphoma Day 2026: Latest Lymphoma News

Posted on: Sep 13, 2026

World Lymphoma Awareness Day is observed annually on September 15 to raise global awareness about Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. This day focuses on educating the public about lymphatic system functions, recognizing early symptoms, promoting prompt diagnosis, and supporting patients.

The 2026 campaign centers on the theme “Navigating Lymphoma and CLL Together.” It guides patients through diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. CLL (chronic lymphocytic leukemia) is a form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. CLL is both a leukemia and a lymphoma because it affects the same type of white blood cells found in the blood and lymphatic system.

Here are the latest updates in lymphoma:

Differences between lymphomas

Lymphoma is not just one type of cancer. There are more than 70 types. Learning the basics can help you better understand your diagnosis, treatment options, and the questions to ask your healthcare team.

Lymphoma begins in lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell that helps your body fight infection. These cells are part of the lymphatic system, which includes your lymph nodes, spleen, bone marrow, and other tissues throughout your body.

Even though all lymphomas start in lymphocytes, they do not all act the same way. Some grow slowly. Others grow quickly. Some begin in B cells, while others begin in T cells or natural killer (NK) cells. These differences help doctors choose the treatment that is most likely to work.

Life after CLL or lymphoma: survivorship tips for better health

In a recent HealthTree webinar, survivorship expert Dr. Ellen Mullen explained how follow-up care can help people with CLL or lymphoma stay healthy, manage long-term side effects, and improve their quality of life.

Many people think survivorship begins after treatment ends. It actually starts the day you are diagnosed. This includes people who are in watch-and-wait, receiving treatment, or in remission after treatment. As people live longer with cancer, survivorship care becomes an important part of overall health.

Study identifies risk factors for tumor lysis syndrome in non-Hodgkin lymphoma

Tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) is a serious complication that can occur during treatment in people with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It happens when cancer cells break down quickly and release substances into the blood. A recent study identified factors linked to a higher risk of TLS in hospitalized patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Can mRNA vaccines improve outcomes for people who receive CAR T-cell therapy?

CAR T-cell therapy is a type of immunotherapy. It works by using a person’s own genetically modified cells to target cancer cells. This therapy has changed the treatment landscape for people with blood cancer. A doctor may recommend CAR-T when a cancer does not respond well to other treatments or keeps coming back.

Several CAR T-cell therapies have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat blood cancers, including leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.

Messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines help the body learn to fight off certain infections. They work by introducing a molecule to the body that activates your immune system and teaches it to recognize and fight a specific virus in the future. Recent research has suggested mRNA vaccines may boost the effects of CAR-T.
