[Music] what is a snip array so a snip array snip stands for single nucleotide polymorphism and it's a microarray best technology that allows you to look for differences in um copy number uh primarily between different cells so it's a way of it's typically used as a way of estimating gains and losses of regions of the genome but as opposed to fish which looks you know just where you're probing the snip array looks at the whole genome for gains and losses of chromosomal material are snip arrays used clinically in myeloma snipin rays are not used clinically in multiple myeloma and to some extent much like the gene expression microarray the the technology platform has been superseded by next generation sequencing and so there you know many sort of next generation sequencing panels will give you the information from a snip array but in a much easier and faster fashion and so certainly copy number you know the number of chromosomes or the number of copies of chromosome 1q or the loss of 17p copy number is really important and there's different ways we can estimate it so one is fish one is a snip microarray another one is next generation sequencing and you know my suspicion is that you know we'll be moving from from the micro array base platform to the next generation sequencing platform and one day one day we may get rid of fish but for the time being it's pretty firmly [Music] entrenched
