Strong: One Man’s Journey with Multiple Myeloma 

The documentary STRONG! Living with Multiple Myeloma follows the journey of filmmaker and event DJ, Paris Jones. In the film, Jones, a husband and father of three at the height of his career in Detroit, recounts his experience with multiple myeloma. Despite living a healthy and active lifestyle, Jones began to experience concerning physical symptoms that interrupted his day-to-day life and work. He sought medical advice and was initially diagnosed with pneumonia. He also experienced back pain so debilitating that his mobility was impacted. When his condition did not improve, he underwent a series of tests and was ultimately diagnosed with multiple myeloma-a disease he was, at the time, unfamiliar with.

Each year, thousands of people are diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Many report having symptoms like bone pain or fatigue. Notably, Black Americans are about twice as likely to develop multiple myeloma compared to white Americans, although the reasons for this disparity are still not fully understood.  

After facing challenges securing insurance coverage, Jones eventually began a chemotherapy regimen and continues his treatment journey with strength, positivity, and the support of his loving family. Strong! Living with Multiple Myeloma is a moving, personal story that offers important insight into life with multiple myeloma and the resilience it takes to navigate a serious diagnosis.
