What is CAR-T cell therapy and how does it work in treating diffuse large B-cell lymphoma?

CAR-T cells have been a revolutionary therapy not just for DLBCL but for multiple blood cancers. And, what CAR-T stands for, It's a form of what we call as engineered cell therapy, where a patient's immune cells or the T cells are taken from the patient and re engineered to become what we call as these CAR-T cells. So they are engineered and armed cells that are very specific and target the cancer cell when it's given back to the patient. So it's kind of science fiction coming into reality Who has typically prescribed CAR-T cell therapy, and at what stage of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma treatment is it used. as of right now through pioneering clinical trials over the last decade, CAR-T cells in large B-cell lymphoma are now approved from second line therapy and beyond. So the first time approval for these agents was in third line DLBCL. That means if somebody was diagnosed with a cancer, it relapsed not once, but twice after treatment. And then you could give CAR-T. Right now in the second line setting, that means somebody gets treatment once and then the disease comes back within one year. The standard of care is to proceed to CAR-T cells in patients who we think can handle the treatment, and ongoing research is trying to move it even up to front line therapy for very aggressive forms of large B-cell lymphoma.
