Hi, my name is Anand Patel. I am part of the Acute Leukemia and Myeloid Malignancy Program at the University of Chicago. Today, I’m highlighting a trial and progress for patients with accelerated or blast-phase myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs).
MPNs have a variable risk of progressing to a more aggressive blood cancer called acute leukemia, commonly referred to as accelerated or blast-phase MPNs. Unfortunately, standard therapies for acute leukemia often don’t work well in these patients.
To address this, we designed a study combining oral decitabine, a standard drug for accelerated or blast-phase MPNs, with a novel oral drug called iadademstat, which is an LSD1 inhibitor. The goal is to see whether adding iadademstat can improve remission rates in these patients.
The study starts with a dose escalation phase to determine the optimal dose of iadademstat in combination with oral decitabine. After that, the trial moves to a randomized phase, where half of the patients receive standard therapy with oral decitabine, and the other half receive oral decitabine combined with iadademstat. We will then compare remission rates between the two groups to see if the combination therapy is more effective.
This is an exciting study because it’s the first randomized trial for accelerated and blast-phase MPNs. There is a high unmet need for novel therapies in this patient population, and we hope this study will provide meaningful progress.
