Description

Understanding Disease Progression: Signs and Speed

Because BPDCN affects multiple compartments of the body, progression does not look the same for every patient. In this lesson, experts explain that while hematologic progression (worsening blood counts) is a unifying theme, the disease can also advance specifically through the skin or the central nervous system.

What does it look like when BPDCN progresses and how fast does it progress?

So it can look like different things. It could be skin progression. It could be central nervous system progression. It could be blood count progression. So it can progress in different ways.

But typically patients just get sicker in general.

And could behave like an acute myeloid leukemia patient. And need, you know, more immediate and aggressive therapy. So progression in a lot of these diseases can look different. But hematologic progression is probably a unifying theme.

Again, it can progress in different ways too. And I like the patient I just mentioned with skin involvement has been it has been somewhat slow at this point a slow process, but it can also present within a very aggressive. And that again is influence often by the molecular underpinnings of that particular case. So the molecular, the genotype of the disease will often influence the aggressiveness and the presentation. So it can vary.
