AL Amyloidosis

Systemic AL amyloidosis is a rare blood disorder. It happens when plasma cells make antibodies that are not shaped the way they should be. Instead of Y-shaped antibodies with heavy and light protein chains, the antibodies have too many light protein chains. This causes misshapen and misfolded antibodies that form amyloid fibrils.
